Collection Mardi Gras Lip Balms | Limited Edition

A photograph of Collection's Mardi Gras Lip Balm in Green Apple, Strawberry and Orange

With summer just around the corner, Collection have released a range of carnival inspired products including trios of fruity lip balms and bright nail varnishes. Aside from the sweet scents reminiscent of cocktails on the beach and bold, eye-catching packaging, the balms are also extremely hydrating. The Mardi Gras Lip Balms are unsurprisingly similar to Maybelline's Baby Lips but cheaper at £1.99 and in my opinion even better. They come in three gorgeous flavours, Green Apple, Strawberry and Orange and despite being coloured accordingly they apply sheer without transferring. Essentially, the perfect low-budget lip balm.

These vibrant limited edition balms have been criticised for their cheap packaging but really, what more do you need? At only £1.99, they hardly break the bank and you don't feel too naughty buying the whole collection - like I did. In Superdrug, you get one of these tropical flavours when you spend £3.99 or more on Collection products. At those prices, it would be rude not to. Although it is worth noting that the deal does not applying when you're buying the Mardi Gras balms, worth a try!

Whether you're at home or on holiday, these balms are perfect for slipping into your beach bag. Throw in a cocktail and a bikini and you're good to go. What are your summer essentials this year?

  1. I agree with you that there has been a lot of moaning about the packaging, but it doesn't matter when it's just thrown in your bag!

I do wish they had a bit more of a tropical tint to them though, but I am really excited to see what they smell/taste like!

  2. Exactly, I really don't understand how packaging could be too simple. I think the design is really effective, it does the job and because they've kept it so minimal they're able to charge practically nothing for them. I certainly wouldn't buy this product if it cost too much more because it is a basic.

Do you mean like you wish they were coloured? I can understand that but I think for a lip balm I'm happy with it just to be moisturising. I don't think they'd be able to achieve the tropical flavours with colours either because really who wants a green lip tint. You've definitely got to smell them - totally amazing! xx

  19. Aren't they! I am obsessed with the strawberry flavour, it's absolutely gorgeous xx

  20. The green could have been like the Barry M lip paint that turns pink! But when you put it like that, I guess the tints would be a bit rubbish :P

Ahh I really need to try them! x

  26. I took advantage of the super drug offer and got myself the Green Apple lip balm and I love the taste! But mine nearly snapped on the first application - maybe because it's too hot?! Anyways a really nice product! And great review Jade :)

  28. Seriously? I didn't have any problems like that, how annoying! Maybe keeping it in the fridge for a little while might solve that problem. They are slightly flimsy in comparison with the wax like balms, it has to be said. I'm glad you like it all the same!xx

  29. Yes unfortunately :( but I'll just pop it in the fridge and hope for the best! I mean for the price they really are lovely! Didn't think they would be as moisturizing as they actually are!

  31. I completely agree, they're so moisturising! I think they're even better than the Baby Lips. I definitely prefer the consistency of things like Burt's Bees and The Body Shop butters but they're a lovely cheap alternative. I'm glad you liked them!xx
